Terms of Service
The agreement between you and us when you use this website.
Last updated 29 July 2026
This is not medical advice
Nothing on this website is medical advice, a diagnosis, or a substitute for seeing a health professional. We publish information about our programmes and about general health topics. We do not know your circumstances, and reading this site does not create a clinical relationship between us.
If you are in a medical emergency, or you are thinking about harming yourself, do not use this website. Call 112 or go to your nearest emergency department now.
Our mental-health programme is delivered by qualified people, in person or by arrangement — not through this website. If you are struggling and it is not an emergency, contact us and we will tell you what we can offer and how quickly.
Booking an appointment through this site is a request. It becomes an appointment when we confirm it. Do not delay seeking care because you are waiting for us.
Who this is between
These terms are between you and CHEER MEDICS FOUNDATION, a non-governmental organisation registered in Nigeria. “We” and “us” mean the foundation; “you” means whoever is using the site.
By using this website you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use it. Where you use a specific part of the site — donating, applying for assistance, volunteering — the section covering that part also applies.
Using the website
You may read, share and link to anything we publish here. You must not:
- Use the site to break the law, or to help anyone else do so.
- Try to reach parts of it you have not been given access to.
- Submit an assistance application you know to be untrue.
- Send us anything designed to damage the site or the people using it.
- Scrape it at a rate that degrades it for others.
- Impersonate anyone, including us.
Accounts
There is no public sign-up. Accounts are created by us — for staff, and for volunteers once an application is approved.
If you have one, keep the password to yourself, use a different one from anywhere else, and tell us immediately if you think somebody else has it. Accounts that can reach money, assistance decisions or patient records must use two-factor authentication; that is not optional and we cannot waive it.
We may suspend an account that is being misused, or where the security of the people whose records it can reach requires it. Where we can tell you first, we will.
Donations
Full detail is in our Donations and Refunds policy. In short:
- Donations are voluntary gifts, not purchases.
- They are charged in Nigerian naira. Any other currency shown is an approximate conversion, for information only.
- Choosing a programme is a direction we will honour wherever we can.
- You will get a receipt by email.
We make no claim about the tax treatment of your gift. Whether a donation is deductible depends on where you are and on your own circumstances. Ask someone qualified where you live. We will provide a receipt carrying our registration details; what you can do with it is between you and your tax authority.
Applying for assistance
Anyone may apply. Applying does not guarantee an award, and we cannot help everyone who asks — we say so plainly, because being led to expect help that does not come is its own harm.
- The eligibility conditions are published on the application page before you start writing. Nobody should be refused against a condition they were never shown.
- Give us accurate information. An application we later find to be deliberately false may be refused, and any award may be reclaimed.
- Decisions are made by our assessment team. Awards above a threshold need a second approver.
- We will tell you the outcome either way.
- What you send us is treated as described in the Privacy Policy and is not used for anything but the application.
Volunteering
Volunteering is not employment and creates no contract of employment. It is an agreement of mutual good faith: you give time, and we give something worth your time.
Some roles bring volunteers into contact with elderly people, patients, or students in distress. Those roles are subject to our safeguarding policy, which is not negotiable and which we will enforce.
Either of us may end the arrangement at any time, without needing a reason.
Our content and yours
The text, images, logo and design of this site belong to us or are used with permission. You may quote and link to us with attribution. You may not present our material as your own, or use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you when we do not.
Anything you send us — an application, a message, a photograph — stays yours. You give us permission to use it for the purpose you sent it for. We will not use your story or your image in fundraising material without asking you specifically, separately, and in a way you can decline without it affecting what you receive from us.
Availability
We try to keep the site available and we do not promise that it always will be. It may be down for maintenance, or because something has gone wrong.
If the site is unavailable and you need us, use any contact route you have. A website being down is never a reason we cannot be reached about care, a safeguarding concern, or a donation that has gone astray.
Our responsibility, and its limits
We take responsibility for what we actually do: the care we provide, the decisions we make about assistance, the money we receive, and the personal data we hold. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows:
- The website is provided as it is. We do not promise it is free of errors.
- We are not responsible for websites we link to.
- We are not liable for loss caused by relying on general information here instead of getting advice suited to your situation.
- We are not liable for a payment provider's failure, though we will help you chase it.
Ending this agreement
You may stop using the site at any time. We may withdraw access from anyone breaking these terms, or where we must in order to protect others.
Ending the agreement does not end obligations that outlast it: our duty to keep financial and clinical records for the periods set out in the Privacy Policy, and your right to ask what we hold about you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Nigerian courts have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still stands.
We would much rather sort a problem out directly. Our complaints procedure is a real process with a person at the end of it, and it is free.
Questions about this page
Write to us through the contact form or at info@cheermedics.org. We answer every message about privacy, safeguarding or a complaint — those are not marketing enquiries and they are not treated as such.
